Delivering Life-Saving Care in Refugee Contexts

Dr. Sarah Amina|Health Coordinator
November 2024Kakuma Refugee Worker

Overview

In the wake of sudden displacement caused by regional instability, thousands of families found themselves in urgent need of medical attention. The existing infrastructure was overwhelmed, and critical supplies were running low.

Rapid Response Mobilization

ADEO's emergency response team was on the ground within 48 hours. By leveraging our pre-positioned medical supplies and network of volunteer health professionals, we were able to establish three fully functional mobile clinics strategically located near the highest concentrations of displaced persons.

Key Outcomes

  • 15,000+ patients treated for varying conditions, from malnutrition to trauma injuries.
  • 95% vaccination coverage achieved for children under 5 in the target zones.
  • 24/7 emergency obstetric care provided, ensuring safe deliveries for 200+ mothers.

Community Integration

"The speed at which ADEO responded saved lives," says Dr. Sarah Amina. "But more importantly, they worked with us. They trained our local health workers, ensuring that when the crisis subsides, we will be stronger than before."

This operation underscores the vital role of local counterparts in humanitarian response. By empowering local health workers, we ensure sustainability and trust.
